Suzanne
In class I sat
cross legged on the mat
Listening to instruction
preparing for production
Hoping that what I make
doesn’t look completely fake
Then something unexpected
By my teacher I was requested
To go to the classroom door
Then out into the corridor
There my father waited
So then I hesitated
But on his face was a smile
One that stretched for a mile
To us a babe had been born
For a moment I was not forlorn
I felt a flowering of joy
knew not if girl or boy
Just knew that this new life
Had made my world feel right
