Flame

Tongues flickering incandescently
fiery hues of shimmering gold,

The aroma entices and beckons
where the log stands so bold

You hear the crackle and sizzle
as the fire takes its hold

My mind drifts into the past
bringing memories of old

The land beyond the fire
a tale, long ago told

Priscilla, Prudence, and Penelope
sisters that huddled in the cold

As the fire, little more than embers
ignited a spark in my soul

From the fireplace steps forth a prince
quite a sight to behold

He hails from the land beyond the fire
dressed in finery and gold

Looking into the fireplace
caused this memory to unfold

It filled me with its warmth
this precious memory of old
